Library Book Week Quiz
Each class came to the library and participated in the Book Week Treasure Hunt, looking for clues based on the shortlisted books.
Art Competition
Many students entered the “Book Week Art Competition. There was a variety of artwork submitted by students from their classrooms and from home. Many winners were chosen and all received prizes.
Tanya Batt, storyteller
On Tuesday August 20th, Tanya Batt a New Zealand storyteller performed for the reception to year 1’s. She was a captivating performer and entranced students with her special skills.
Book Week Parade and Assembly August, Friday 23rd 9:50 am
The theme of the Book Week Parade was “Come as an Alien” and this year students made their own costumes to turn themselves into alien creatures. It highlighted the children’s imaginative and creative skills and was a fun whole school celebration. There were some “out of this world “teaching staff as well.
Room 11 and the library presented the Book Week Assembly called “Planet Party”. The class performed a small dance routine for each of the planets highlighted on the screen.
Why have Book Week?
Book Week is a time to highlight some of the best in Australian children’s literature and to celebrate reading and books. Students read or heard many of the shortlisted titles and were keen to borrow these focus books. A positive attitude and a strong literature focus, increases children’s reading interest and ability. Many of the Book Week books have become firm favourites for students over the years.
Do you think its important for students to know the Book Week books?
"Yes, it engages them with books and the celebration of reading."

Do you think Book Week is an important celebration for schools?
"Yes. The children need to know how to use their imagination. They need to be excited by reading."

Would you still celebrate Book Week without the library's support?
"No, central to success and engagement of children".
