We always aim for 100% participation in the PRC and 97.72% of students achieved their PRC in 2023. F- 2 classes filled in a class sheet for the PRC. Years 3-6 students are expected to fill in their own sheets. The school now retains the PRC sheets in a digital form and we no longer have to keep paper copies. They need to be kept for 9 years. Independent RWInc students narrated and recorded the PRC assembly as part of the ‘Specialist’s Assembly’. (See Independent RWInc) We have maintained a high PRC achievement for the past 12 years.
The Independent RWInc group created their own picture books inspired by Gabriel Evans book 'Norton and the Borrowing Bear'. Each student created their own characters and based their story on the 'Norton and the Borrowing Bear' plot of an annoying neighbour continually borrowing items on a very regular basis.
To celebrate the creation of the books, Independent RWInc invited 2 guests to their book launch. The theme for Book Week for 2022 was 'Dreaming with eyes open', featuring the artwork of children's book author and illustrator Jasmine Seymour. The library was decorated with the wonderful CBCA merchandise featuring Jasmine's art and thea display of 'The Wizard of Oz' the 2022 play to be performed by rooms 28 & 29 in October. Room 11 participated in the 2022 CBCA Shadow Judging program. The students looked closely at the CBCA judging criteria and the 2022 Picture Book of the Year shortlist and selected their own choices for Book of Year.
They were lucky enough to be visited by Sarah Forrest, CBCA SA judge for 'Picture Book of the Year 2022' and SA children's author and illustrator Mandy Foot. Sarah explained how the judges selected books using the CBCA guidelines and why they chose the 6 shortlisted books. Mandy explained her drawing techniques and how they re influenced by the story. How did the students find out their overall winner for 'Picture Book of the Year'? By working out the meaning of the edible gift at the end of the program- can you guess? It was 'Stellarphant'. |
