Well done to the 2 teams who represented Ardtornish Primary School in the 2017 Book Cup competition this week. This is the first time APS has entered a team, so although we didn't win, we did learn a lot more about how the competition works. Surrey Downs Primary School were the hosts and the winning schools were Tea Tree Gully PS and Surrey Downs PS.

Phil Cummings visited rooms 7,8,9,10,11,22,24,30 and 31 to talk about his stories and how he writes. Phil is a celebrated South Australian children's author who has now expanded his repertoire to include writing musicals. He is a gifted storyteller and had each audience entranced with his words and books.
Phil was very impressed with his "ambassadors" Brooke, Zodee, Will and Tamara, who guided him around the school and were there to help him with any queries. Rooms 7,8,9,10 and 11 enjoyed the visit from Rosanne Hawke on Tuesday. She is a well known, award winning author of children's literature and her recent book "Daughter of the Nomad" was included in the notables books for children this year.
Rosanne was delighted with her "ambassadors" for the day, Mia, Skye and Aman from year 7. She presented each student with a gift of one of her signed books. Not only did she talk about her experiences in Pakistan and the impact it had on her writing but generously informed the students of the steps she takes in writing a book or story. It is of great benefit for the students to hear from a master in their craft and will impact on their writing and reading. |
